Validação baseada em simulação de configurações de plantas industriais que aplicam o Lean Manufacturing

Dia três estudos de caso semanal nos traz um artigo de Robert Baxter, Trevor Bouk, Dr. Laszlo Tikasz e Robert I. McCulloch, cortesia da Bechtel Corporation. O estudo, intitulado "Validação baseada em simulação de plantas industriais com o Lean Manufacturing aplicado", foi publicado no Jornal Bechtel Tecnologia (Dezembro de 2009, Volume 2, Número 1).

Os pesquisadores procuraram usar software de simulação para validar a capacidade de uma planta industrial de absorver o lean. Eles identificaram e otimizaram vários elementos-chave da planta, incluindo o espaço de armazenamento, o uso de equipamentos e níveis de estoque.

Os autores concluem que "o resultado é uma forma segura, racional em termos de aplicação do lean (especialmente em termos de eliminação de resíduos), deixa a planta mais eficiente para armazenar e manusear os ânodos de carbono."


Biografia do Autor .

Mr. Baxter is a technology manager and technical specialist in Bechtel’s Mining & Metals Aluminium Centre of Excellence in Montreal, Canada. He holds an MAppSc in Management of Technology from the University of Waterloo and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Lakehead University, both in Ontario, Canada, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in that province.

Mr. Bouk is a technical specialist in Bechtel’s Mining & Metals Aluminium Centre of Excellence in Montreal, Canada, with 17 years of experience in the mining and metals industry. He has a BE in Mechanical Engineering from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in that province.

Dr. Tikasz is the senior specialist for Bechtel’s Mining & Metals Aluminium Centre of Excellence in Montreal, Canada. He has 29 years of experience in advanced aluminum process modeling and is an expert on aluminum production and transformation, process modeling, and simulation. Dr. Tikasz holds a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Miskolc, Hungary. His Doctor of Technology in Process Control and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering and Science Teaching are from the Technical University of Budapest, Hungary.

Mr. McCulloch is manager of Bechtel’s Mining & Metals Aluminium Centre of Excellence in Montreal, Canada. He has global responsibility for aluminum smelter technology projects and studies, including reduction
technology, carbon plants, casting facilities, and related infrastructure or systems. Bob holds a BEng in Civil Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
