FlexSim represents at 4th Gala of Logistics in Poland
Student team LCG, which was awarded 3rd place in the “Best FlexSim Model” category.
Around 350 people attended the fourth annual Gala of Logistics on June 13th, 2013 at Politechnika Pozna?ska (Pozna? Institute of Technology), a university in Pozna?, Poland. The goal of the event was to allow students to gain experience while working on real industry projects, and for companies to try new technologies without major investments.
The event’s tagline was “Breakthrough in Simulation of Logistics Processes,” and that’s exactly what the student-led teams tried to do: find innovative, simulation-based answers to real industry problems. Each team worked on a project for one of the participating companies, including Volkswagen (which has a plant in Pozna?), Pratt & Whitney, and Bridgestone.
The 4th Gala of Logistics featured keynote speaker Dr. Allen Greenwood, Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Mississippi State University. Each team simulation project was presented and then evaluated by Dr. Greenwood and others, and awards for the top simulations were presented in several different categories.
In the award category for “Best FlexSim Model”, 1st place went to team Logrado, which completed a project for the Raben Group titled “Optimization of unloading and completion process in Raben’s transit warehouse in G?dki.”
The event was made possible through the time and resources of individuals and entities in both academia and industry, including the Pozna? Institute of Technology, Dr. Pawe? Pawlewski (a faculty member at the university and managing director of its Simulation and Optimization Center in Logistics and Production Processes), and FlexSim Software Products. The 4th Gala of Logistics also marked the official unveiling of a Polish-language version of Applied Simulation: Modeling and Analysis using FlexSim by Beaversock, Greenwood, Lavery and Nordgren.
Next year’s event—the 5th Gala of Logistics—will be held in June 2014.
