On day four of Case Study Week, we’re going to examine a paper titled “Integrating Fuzzy Expert System with Discrete Event Simulation to Determine Configuration of Resources Level for an Emergency Unit” by students S. Mohsen Hosseini, Seratun Jannat, and Abdullah Al Khaled of Mississippi State University.

Fuzzy logic deals with many values representing partial truths. In their study, the researchers use a fuzzy expert system to determine ideal resource levels for the emergency unit which, by its nature, possesses a certain level of uncertainty. The system made considerations for budget as it found an optimal level for maximum patent output.


Brief Author Biographies (from the text)

Mr. Hosseini has an M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Mississippi State University, USA and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Mazandaran University of Science and Technology in IRAN. His research efforts focused on Meta-heuristic Optimizations, Healthcare Simulation, and Fuzzy Programming.

Ms. Jannat is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Industrial and System Engineering at Mississippi State University, USA. Previously she was Lecturer and Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

Mr. Khaled is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Industrial and System Engineering at Mississippi State University, USA. Previously he was Lecturer and Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). His research interests includes Meta-heuristic optimizations, Large-scale optimization, and Operations Management.
