Simulation
Will a plant layout change improve throughput? What is the origin of the bottleneck on the production line? Is hiring more employees the answer, or would it be more cost effective to squeeze more performance from the machines?
These are difficult questions to answer in a deterministic way. Using statistical probablities, Flexsim is able to replicate all the factors that may be influencing your process, giving you confidence in the right course of action. Flexsim is the ultimate tool for answering the toughest questions.
The Simulation Engine
Underneath the hood, Flexsim is built on a solid, state of the art simulation engine. The engine handles the visualization of the model, drawing the 3D orthographic and perspective views you see on your screen. But more importantly, the engine crunches the data and events that your model generates. The simulation engine handles function calls, makes calculations, generates random input, and writes output.
Flexscript, a precompiled list of commands, can be used to interface with the engine while the simulation is running. This special coupling of strength and functionality gives the modeler immediate access to the power provided by the simulation engine.
Additional Tools
Flexsim is equipped with an experimenter tool to simulate 'what-if' scenarios. Scenarios can be run automatically and results are stored in reports, tables, and graphs. You can analyze the performance of each scenario by a number of pre-defined and user-defined performance indicators such as utilization, throughput, lead-time, and costs. It's easy to export results to other applications like Microsoft® Word or Excel. Input data for the simulation can also be directly imported from these packages using ODBC or Dynamic Data Exchange connections from all standard databases and spreadsheets.
